CCTV Upgrade Report
Decision Maker: Cabinet
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: Yes
Purpose:
To agree the basis for future investment in the CCTV control system and cameras.
Decision:
That the control room be retained in the medium term at its current location but with financial provision made to co-locate in the Cecil Street offices and a tender exercise undertaken for the replacement of the control system, cameras, and mobile CCTV equipment in accordance with Option A in Annex 1 of the report.
Reasons for the decision:
To reflect the necessary investment in a system that has been in place since 1997 and is reaching the end of its maintainable life, but is still required to assist in the council’s aims as part of the Community Safety Partnership.
Alternative options considered:
Delivery through the Kent and Medway CCTV Partnership was considered, but the loss of local control and jobs did not make this the preferred option. Leasing the new system was also considered, but the long term costs of this were greater and were not outweighed by the benefits.
Interests and Nature of Interests Declared:
None
