Purpose:
Council received a petition “From residents of Minster/Monkton ‘requesting’ for a change in the route of No.9 bus that goes between Ramsgate and Canterbury to include Minster/Monkton on its route.”
However Council does not have authority or responsibility for bus routes as that is for the bus operator to decide on and in this instance the issue rests with Stagecoach.
Decision:
Cabinet agreed to refer the petition to Stagecoach and Kent County Council via Councillor Matterface at the next Quality Bus Partnership meeting scheduled for 14 December 2016.
Reasons for the decision:
Stagecoach are members of the Quality Bus Partnership with KCC and TDC and Cllr Matterface is the TDC member representative that attends these meetings. As Council we can ask our representative to present the request from this petition to the Partnership.
Alternative options considered:
Not to take any further action as this issue is not a council function. This option was rejected because council is in a position to engage the bus operator through the Quality Bus Partnership forum and present the concerns raised by the petitioners.
