Decision Maker: Director of Housing Services and Planning

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

To allocate properties in the Margate Housing Intervention programme, in Cliftonville in  line with the attached Local Lettings Plan.

Reasons for the decision:

The council’s allocations policy enables the use of Local Lettings Plans to help maintain and promote balanced and sustainable community when letting particular properties or groups of properties. In particular the Local Lettings plan for the Margate Housing Intervention Programme aims to prioritise applications from people already living within the CT9 area. The Margate Housing Intervention Programme is part of the council’s Live Margate initiative.

The Council has the power under s167 (2e) of the Housing Act 1996, as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002, to allocate particular accommodation to people of a particular description, whether or not they fall within the reasonable preference categories or not, provided the arrangements are set out within the council’s allocations policy.

Alternative options considered:

Allocation of properties without a Local Lettings Plan was considered and rejected. The local lettings plan supports aims to support the balanced and sustainable lettings of council owned homes in Cliftonville and supports the objectives of the council’s Live Margate initiative.
