The preferred supplier of recruitment services for a specialist search for a single role has Public Liability Insurance cover of up to £2 million. The Council’s standard terms would require cover up to £5 million, however the decision has been taken on this occasion to accept a lower level of cover.

Reasons for the decision:

Given the nature of the services being provided by the recruitment company; the likelihood of there being a need to make a claim against their Public Liability Insurance is extremely small and any instance that may arise is highly likely to be covered by their existing £2 million cover.

Alternative options considered:

Consideration was given to insisting upon the supplier increasing their cover however, the insurance market is currently very tight with a limited number of suppliers and it is likely that this action would put the provider at a financial detriment unnecessarily and is likely to result in the loss of the supplier altogether.
