Decision details
Vehicle and Equipment Replacement for the Open Spaces Service
Decision Maker: Cabinet
Decision status: Recommendations approved
Is Key decision?: Yes
Is subject to call in?: Yes
Purpose:
The decision confirms a planned purchase of vehicles and equipment for the Open Spaces Service to the value of £1,277,850. The purchases can be funded from the Open Spaces Service allocation within the Vehicle and Equipment Replacement Programme capital budget.
Decision:
Cabinet approved the following:
1. The purchase of the vehicles and equipment listed in 3.1 of the Cabinet report at a cost of £1,277,850, funded from the Vehicle and Equipment Replacement Programme.
Reasons for the decision:
The Council has 36 vehicles and equipment that are used to deliver the Open Spaces Service effectively. They are used to deliver grass and hedge cutting, weed control, graffiti removal, tree management and infrastructure minor repairs and works. The majority of these vehicles are over seven years old.
Alternative options considered:
Cabinet could decide not to allocate funds to the Open Spaces Service to purchase the vehicles and equipment listed in table 3 (3.1) (to the Cabinet report) because of budget constraints. This is not the preferred option as there is a recognised need to replace vehicles and equipment before they are beyond their useful life to ensure service down time due to vehicle or equipment failure is kept to a minimum.
