Decision:

To reduce the level of Professional Indemnity cover required to be held by the Consultant (Supplier) from the councils standard value of £2M to £1M for the appointment relating to the Toilet Condition Surveys.

Reasons for the decision:

Level of cover is reviewed and adjusted to the risk. The level of cover returned by the two lowest tenderers was £1M which is a common level for small practices.

Alternative options considered:

The alternative to review would be to request additional cover be obtained from the Consultant for this particular appointment. Costs incurred would be passed to TDC but due to the market place increasing cover may not be available and needs to be maintained for a considerable liability period after the contract has been completed.

 

The standard of cover should be appropriate for the level of risk. This particular contract does not include any design liability and is of minimal risk to TDC due to the nature of the work. Communication agreed a reduced level with our insurance officer was acceptable for the authority.
