Decision details
Public Toilets Refurbishment and Renewal Project
Decision Maker: Cabinet
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: Yes
Purpose:
The decision confirms that all phase 1 revenue works for the Public Toilets Refurbishment and Renewal project have been completed at a lower cost than anticipated and identifies how the unspent funds can be reallocated for further public toilets revenue repairs as a phase 2 works programme.
Decision:
Cabinet agreed the following:
- To approve that £93k of the original £279k revenue repairs budget be reallocated to the following public toilets as all revenue repair works agreed at Cabinet on Thursday 14 December 2023 have been completed:
a. Minnis Bay, Birchington (£50k);
b. Victoria Gardens, Broadstairs (£43k).
Reasons for the decision:
The Council is responsible for maintenance of 27 public toilets and has committed so far to spend £279k on revenue repairs. The first phase of revenue repairs has been completed at a cost of £186k. The cabinet needed to confirm where the unspent £93k would be reallocated.
Alternative options considered:
The alternative options for Council to consider were not to allocate the funds requested and not to undertake refurbishment of the existing proposed public toilets because of budget constraints. This is not the preferred option as there is a recognised need to improve the public toilets in Thanet.
