Beach Management Plan

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

This report brings the Beach Management Plan forward for adoption by Cabinet. This report is one of the key projects of the Destination Management Plan. It provides 16 recommendations for improvements to Thanet’s beaches by the consultants who were commissioned to deliver the work. The plan was drafted in consultation with stakeholders involved with the districts coastline.

Decision:

Cabinet adopt the Beach Management Plan and agree option 2, to allow officers to take forward the required work as identified in paragraphs 3.2 and 3.3 of the report, subject to existing delegations and budgetary restrictions.

Reasons for the decision:

The Beach Management Plan is a key project from the adopted Destination Management Plan and its recommendations provide a framework to support the improvements and take advantage of opportunities on the districts beaches.

Alternative options considered:

Do not adopt the Beach Management Plan, however this will create a position whereby the infrastructure is not improved, capital costs will be sought from internal sources to maintain some of the assets and the assets along the beach will need support improving the destination.

Interests and Nature of Interests Declared:
