The existing enforcement policy used by the Environmental Protection Team has been updated to ensure compliance with current legislation and guidance; in line with our commitment to the principles of good enforcement outlined in the enforcement concordat.
The policy lays out how EH investigates complaints including priority of cases. The general policy relates to all enforcement actions and describes the basic principles of Enforcement. Guidance is provided on what is considered when making a decision on enforcement action. The policy also lays out the various types of enforcement action available to the local authority; and includes details on complaints and appeals available to those who are affected by enforcement decisions made by the local authority.
Cabinet approved Thanet District Council’s Environmental Protection Enforcement Policy 2022-2027.
To enable Environmental Protection officers to take enforcement decisions in line with current legislation and guidance; and in accordance with the principles of good enforcement. And to provide contemporary information to Thanet residents and businesses on the action available to the local authority to resolve complaints
The option not to approve the updated policy was rejected because enforcement decisions being made may conflict with new legislation, guidance and powers available to officers.
